Memorial Day Weekend 2001
Back to the BARR "Cruises" Page
Offats Bayou on Memorial Day - It was a good weekend (for most of us). The weather was great. We had to motor the entire way down as there was very little wind or what wind there was was "on the nose". Some BARR non-members had to work at the last moment and could not come, some had engine trouble and turned back and some had engine trouble, ran aground and spent the night near the Galveston Causeway Bridge (we wont mention any names). We're just glad they were safe!
A few BARR boats did succesfully make the trip down there. I counted about 150-175 boats anchored in Offats on Sunday morning and there was about 70 remaining as of Monday morning (early). By 1:20pm on Monday, there were only 3 boats remaining at anchor! The weather was nice - 80's during the day with a nice breeze and low 70's at night with a breeze (really breezy on Sunday night). A good time was had by all including having a good time at Moody Gardens, swimming from the boat and having a few drinks. The trip back from Offats to Clear Lake was awesome - S/V Four Sail left at 1:20pm and arrived at Landry's at 5:17pm - only 3 hours and 57 minutes! We averaged 6.8 knots. S/V Illusion left an hour or two earlier and reportedly made it back in about 4.5 hours. What a ride! We didnt take too many photos, but here are a few...

Hopefully we can get some photos from "the unfortunate" BARR bunch - those that had trouble making it down. Surely you had a good time back at the dock?? (Or aground near the causeway bridge).
