Hi mom, hope your enjoying a nice cool spring in San Antone. Better get that garden
planted with kishna's special seeds right now. Where is robert these days? Haven't
heard from him since he was loading up his truck and was comming home. Ken too
right? Good, get them to clean out the garage.
Well we did our best on picking a weather window to get to the equator, had great
winds for 2 and a half days, caught so many tuna we couldn't begin to eat them all.
In my last update to wayne I mentioned a large school of tuna who seemed to going
our way, next morning they were still with us, literally following the boat with
hundreds of birds working the leftovers. We tossed 6 more 6-10 pounders into the
cockpit using a light pole and had a wonderful time. Sport fishing in a barrel.
Never seen the likes of it, all day they were with us again and all yesterday too.
That's almost three hundred miles of tuna 24 hours a day. We cutup 9 for jerky which
I am gnawing on right now with coffee for breakfast. I know this sounds hard to
believe, but the Gypsy Soul jerky is better than texas beef jerky, really really.
Tuna sushi in on the lunch menu and I suspect grilled tuna is on the dinner menu
since there's not a lick of wind to blow out the grill, looks like we'll be motoring
on autopilot for the next 24 hours with the watermaker running from all the extra
electricity coming off the engine. We completely topped up on fuel before leaving so
we are OK on this long windless trudge, same windless equatorial doldrums we crossed
5 months ago 1000 miles to the west on the way up from Fiji (remember? we motored
for 7 days) At least we have a stop this time and can wait for the next weather
window.
I just realized I'm going to spend another birthday on the equator, that's three in
a row now, how weird. This is the second one spent in a little island in the middle
of nowhere. Next year I'm going to spend it in a big city somewhere...... not!
Well all's well on board, david sends his warm regards, well he's actually sleeping,
off watch right now, but I'm sure he's dreaming warm regards.
